What is going on with Pope Francis and Emma Bonino?
For those who don’t know who that is, Bonino has been the face of abortion in Italy for decades, having first established a facility in the country in the 1970s which she successfully used as a launching pad to push for its legalization years later.
She has also spent decades as an elected official in the Italian and European Parliaments advocating for left-wing causes like recreational drug use and lax divorce laws.
According to LifeSite journalist Michael Haynes, Bonino is credited for being “at least partially responsible for over 6 million abortions,” including 10,141 illegal ones, a fact that she has boasted about in the past.
In short, the 76-year-old aging feminist has been one of the most vociferous public enemies of the Catholic Church over the past 50 years.

So it’s particularly scandalous, though somewhat predictable at this point, to see Francis make a spontaneous visit to her residence in Rome this week Tuesday while bearing gifts of chocolate and flowers after she was released from the hospital with breathing problems.
“This morning, with great surprise and full of emotion, His Holiness paid me a very welcome visit,” Bonino said in an X post. “The extraordinary human aspect of Pope Francis always emerges.”

One can’t but compare Bonino’s VIP treatment to the animosity Francis has shown towards faithful Catholics who attend the Latin Mass over these past 11 years. Instead of candy and sweet nothings being whispered in their ears, all they get is their liturgy canceled and disgusting insults hurled at them.
Bonino’s reference to Francis’ “human aspect” indicates the visit was not intended to help her prepare for her looming judgment, or to encourage her to confess her sins and offer up her sufferings for the many lives she has taken. This seems to be confirmed by her admission that Francis praised her during his visit as an “example of freedom and resistance.” But an example to whom? And resistance to what? For those who want to defy God’s teachings of course. This is a clear cut example if there ever was one of Isaiah 5:20 when he said, “woe to those who call evil good and good evil.”
As I said above, these disgraceful comments are not that surprising given what Francis has said of this murderer previously. In 2016, he called her one of Italy’s “forgotten greats.” In 2022, he said he has “great respect” for her. But why? What has she done that is pleasing to God? This is yet another new low in what may be the lowest point ever since Vatican II for the Conciliar Church.
