Dear Friends of Catholic Tradition,

This momentous year has begun. The year 2019 will see the 50th anniversary of the imposition of the New Mass throughout the Church. This “banal on-the-spot product”, to use a term applied to it by then-Cardinal Ratzinger was concocted by a small group of progressive elites aided by Protestant observers. It was not requested by the faithful. It was overwhelmingly rejected by two-thirds of the bishops who previewed it (in Latin) in 1967. The Cardinal Prefect of the Holy Office forwarded a study to Pope Paul VI demonstrating that this new rite of Mass broke with the dogmatic definition of the Mass issued by the Council of Trent. Yet, revolutions brook no opposition. Except in a few modern “catacombs” throughout the Church, most Catholics had this new rite of Mass thrust upon them on the First Sunday of Advent 1969.

After 50 years, it is easy to become accustomed to the current situation and take the gravity of this event too lightly. Perhaps it has been years since we experienced a Novus Ordo Mass. We have a Traditional Mass just across town and we just bury our heads in our missal and take it for granted. Perhaps our initial opposition to the New Mass has lost some of its zeal. Our children have known nothing but the Traditional Mass (Deo gratias), but since we no longer have to fight for the Mass, we neglect to teach them why we drive across town instead of walking into the parish on the corner.

The foregoing are among the reasons Catholic Family News decided to dedicate this year’s annual conference to a deep consideration of the New Mass from a variety of perspectives. Please see our 2019 CFN Conference page for more information on the event.

For the month of February, we are offering an incredible opportunity. If you subscribe to CFN or renew your subscription in the month of February, you will receive a discount code entitling you to 15 percent off either the full conference and meal tickets or the conferences-only tickets. If you purchase the full conference and meal tickets, that is a value of $67.00. Your discount code will be good for ticket purchases through March 15, 2019. Renewing or subscribing now thus entitles you to a discount that could be greater than the cost of the subscription itself. In addition, by subscribing to CFN today you will be able to read the papal documents we will be reprinting each month in preparation for the conference.

I look forward to welcoming many of you to Chicago on May 3-5, 2019!

In Christ the King,
