Catholic Family NewsCFN managing editor Matt Gaspers was recently interviewed on The Catholic Current, a radio program produced by The Station of the Cross (see below for full audio).
Fr. Robert McTeigue, S.J., host of the show, and Mr. Gaspers discussed the upcoming World Youth Day scheduled to take place in Lisbon next month (Aug. 1-6, 2023). They express concerns about the event based on how it has been run since its inception in 1985, as well as the recent comment of Bishop Américo Aguiar (chief organizer of WYD 2023): “We don’t want to convert the young people to Christ or to the Catholic Church or anything like that at all.”
Gaspers also shares about his experience attending WYD 2002 in Toronto and quotes from the book World Youth Day: From Catholicism to Counterchurch (Canisius Books, 2005) co-authored by John Vennari (RIP).
