Stabat Mater Stanza: (Stand) At the Cross Her station keeping; Stood the mournful Mother weeping, Close to Jesus to the last.

1st Station: JESUS IS CONDEMNED TO DEATH

V: We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee. (Genuflect)

“Jesus therefore came forth, bearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment. And he (Pilate) saith to them: Behold the Man.” (Jn 19: 5)

“… John saw Jesus coming to him and he saith: Behold the Lamb of God, behold Him Who taketh away the sin of the world.” (Jn 1:29)

2nd Station: JESUS TAKES UP HIS CROSS

“Then Jesus said to His disciples: If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For he that will save his life, shall lose it; and he that shall lose his life for My sake, shall find it.” (Mt 16:24-25)

3rd Station: JESUS FALLS THE FIRST TIME

“And after they had mocked Him, they took off the cloak from Him, and put on Him His own garments, and led Him away to crucify Him.” (Mt 27:31)

“But He was wounded for our iniquities, He was bruised for our sins: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His bruises we are healed.” (Is 53:5)

4th Station: JESUS MEETS HIS AFFLICTED MOTHER

V: We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee. (Genuflect)

“And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His Mother: Behold this Child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted; And Thy own soul, a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.” (Lk 2:34-35)

5th Station: SIMON OF CYRENE HELPS JESUS CARRY THE CROSS

6th Station: VERONICA WIPES THE FACE OF JESUS

7th Station: JESUS FALLS THE SECOND TIME

8th Station: JESUS MEETS THE WOMEN OF JERUSALEM

9th Station: JESUS FALLS THE THIRD TIME

10th Station: JESUS IS STRIPPED OF HIS GARMENTS

11th Station: JESUS IS NAILED TO THE CROSS

12th Station: JESUS DIES UPON THE CROSS

14th Station: JESUS IS PLACED IN THE SEPULCHER
